Resting

By David Nguyendo

This display of stone (petrified wood), driftwood, and living Tillandsia plants combine to make a peaceful yet stirring statement. While it can be interpreted in several ways, I think of the stone as representing a seated figure resting on an old tree trunk with mounds of moss at its feet. Is the figure simply resting or in a state of contemplation? The colors of the three components complement each other and the scale of the pieces are appropriate. The additional of living plants adds a new dimension to viewing stone display. Living plants can and should be used more in display as long as they do not dominate the exhibit.

The stone is 21 cm wide, 50 cm high and 5 cm wide in this configuration. It is in the collection of David and Karen Nguyendo.
