Suiseki to Go

By Christoph Daim

I love stones! I even take a stone with me on holidays or when I travel. Although it is tiny, this stone is a perfectly detailed, fine, distant mountain stone. It was a present from a friend who found it at the famous Italian site in Liguria at Lago di Giacopiane. One day, a sudden strike of serendipity gave me the idea of making this ring. I never thought a daiza could be made from metal, but in this case of making jewelry, there was no other way. I made a daiza from jeweler’s wax to get a cast in sterling silver. And also, I never thought of the concept of a ring to be worn on two fingers. But the result is great to wear and gives a great look too. Altogether, it came out fantastic. You can find a video of its making on my YouTube channel, “Vienna suiseki.”
