"Refuge"

By Joe Grande

The stones are agates from the Souris Agate Pit in Manitoba, Canada. The base is a piece of iron slag from a steel mill in Flin Flon, Manitoba. To me, it looks like a figure-stone evoking a creature sheltering a smaller creature under its wing against an inhospitable environment represented by the base. The warm colors of the stones and their smooth texture are a stark contrast to the rough iron slag and the dark foreboding background.

The overall size of this display is 24 cm wide, 15 cm deep, and 12 cm high. The stones were collected by Joe Grande.
