Stone of the Month:

"Intersection"

By Thomas Elias

I had this stone for a year and temporally displayed it in several orientations before I had two bases made for it. At that time, I gave it the poetic name “Intersection.” Viewing this stone evoked different feelings and stimulated my mind. First, I marveled at the geological processes that occurred to fuse two different rocks together. What forces were required to create this piece? The more I viewed this stone, the more I thought about the intersection between two people when their lives become intertwined. The shared love can form a strong bond like the two types of stones in this rock. Can a different orientation express a stage in the bonding process? This bonding creates a new entity that is greater and more meaningful than each of the lives separately.

This stone was collected in Wyoming (USA) at an elevation of approximately 10,000 feet (3,048 meters). It is a dolomite/marble formation deposited around quartzite. It is 18 x 17.5 x 8 cm and weighs 4.75 pounds (2.15 kilograms). This was a gift from a dear friend and this stone resides in the collection of Thomas S. Elias and Hiromi Nakaoji.
