Stone of the Month:

"Hidden Passageway"

Buddhist monks often retreated to remote mountainous regions in order to find suitable places for meditation and contemplation. This Lingbi stone is reminiscent of a hidden passageway high in the mountains that monks may have used in seeking shelter or trekking through a natural tunnel to reach a secluded temple. Stones that covey messages to viewers make the best viewing stones. This stone is mounted on a rosewood table-style base with five cabriole legs. It is 22 cm high with the rosewood base, 24 cm wide and 11.5 cm deep. This is a variant of a table-style base in that six short pillars raise the stone above the tabletop to create additional holes. The stone and base came from the collection of master craftsman Zhu Qing Cai in Ningbo.
