Stone of the Month:
November 2019
"Attina's Mountain"

This dramatic Ligurian stone with its steep slopes and sharply pointed peaks is indicative of a young mountain that hasn’t been subject to weathering. It generates a feeling of excitement rather than a more calming expression of older well-worn mountaintops that time and weathering has transformed into round-topped forms.

Angelo Attina, the late renowned stone collector, found this stone many years ago in the Ligurian mountains, cleaned it, and made the original base for it. In 2016, this stone was acquired from the estate of Attina by us and we had a new base was made for it by Phil Hogan. The stone and its base are 28 cm wide, 21 cm high and 14.5 cm deep. The display table was made by Enrico Cattaneo, an Italian master wood worker.
