Stone of the Month:

November 2025

Untitled”

This attractive stone was purchased in an antique store in China about thirty years ago by Vincent Covello during one of his trips to China and Japan. He brought this stone to Japan on this trip, and several of his collector friends admired it and wanted to purchase it from him. It is easy to see why this stone is so desirable. This small landscape stone suggests multiple scenes—a mountain, plateau, waterfall, and a tunnel. It is rare to find a stone with so many great features.

It is a Japanese Furuya stone that found its way to China in the 1990s. Its origin was unknown to the dealer at the time of sale. This stone reminds Covello of the beautiful islands off the coasts of Vietnam and Thailand. It also reminds him of the Thai island in the movie “The Beach”—beautiful but also dangerous.

This stone is 20.3 cm wide, 15.2 cm high, and 10 cm deep, and is in the personal collection of Vincent Covello.
