Stone of the Month:

February 2021

"Landmark"

This low Shimanto River stone from Shikoku, Japan, has a quiet elegance. The low overhang on the left side of the stone is unusual but adds interest to this display. The bronze tenkei adds scale and may lead some viewers to consider this a massive coastal scene. This suiseki was displayed in the 2010 Meihenten held at the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo. This stone and base were published in the Japanese language volume Exhibition of Japanese Suiseki Master Pieces (2010). This stone is 17 cm wide, 5 cm high, 13 cm deep and is in the collection of Thomas S. Elias and Hiromi Nakaoji.
